Equipment

  • Frying Pan
  • Large Pot
  • Skillet

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces green beans topped and tailed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes or to taste
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Start by adding the water to a deep skillet over high heat. Bring it to a boil. This steaming process is vital for the beans to cook evenly.
  • Once the water is boiling, add the green beans to the skillet and cover the pan. This will allow the beans to steam. Reduce the heat to medium, letting them cook for about ten minutes.
  • After ten minutes, check the beans for tenderness. If they're close to your preferred doneness, drain the water. If not, cover the pan again and continue cooking until they reach your desired level of tenderness.
  • When the beans are nearly done, add the butter, garlic, and chili flakes to the pan. This is where the magic happens! Toss the beans around in the melted butter and garlic, making sure everything is evenly coated.
  • Sauté the beans for a couple of minutes, tossing continuously as the garlic cooks slightly. Keep an eye on the garlic; you don't want it to burn, just to become fragrant and soft.
  • Lastly, season the beans generously with salt and pepper. This adds that finishing touch of flavor. Serve immediately while they’re hot and vibrant!
